Curtin Middle School issued the following announcement on June 1.
The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced the 2021-22 PSAC Men’s Golf All-Conference Teams and Major Award Winners via a release by the league office Wednesday. Gannon’s Connor Bennink and Head Coach Dustin Coleman took home Athlete and Coach of the year, respectively, while Justin Scally of Pitt-Johnstown claimed Freshman of the Year honors.
The PSAC All-Conference Teams and Major Award Winners are selected by a vote of the league’s head coaches.
Connor Bennink was tabbed as the PSAC Athlete of the Year following a big-time sophomore season. The Kennett Square, Pa. native played in 29 rounds this year and averaged a 72.8 in 2021-22. He was the Medalist at the Guy & Jeanne Kuhn Memorial back in September and had 11 top-10 finishes this year. He carded one of the lowest rounds in the PSAC this season with a 65 at the West Liberty Invitational. He helped Gannon to the NCAA Championships and a sixth-place NCAA Atlantic/East Regional Tournament finish.
Pitt-Johnstown freshman Justin Scally took home Freshman of the Year honors in the league. Scally had a scoring average of 77.1 this season. One of his biggest performances came on the PSAC Championship stage where he finished tied for 10th and carded a low-round score of 72 (+1). It was also his low tournament total on the year of 224 with a 72, 76, and 76. Scally is also the lone freshman on one of the two men’s all-conference teams.
Gannon’s Head Coach Dustin Coleman captures his second consecutive Coach of the Year honor following an impressive season. The Golden Knights were one of the top teams in the region placing tied for third at the Atlantic/East Regional Tournament earning their way to another NCAA DII National Championships Tournament opportunity. In the Fall, Coleman coached his team to second in the PSAC Championships.
