Six PSAC Baseball Programs Continue Season at NCAA Atlantic Region Tournament

Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference issued the following announcement on May 15.

Six Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Baseball programs were selected to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Tournament, the NCAA announced Sunday. West Chester, Millersville, Gannon, Slippery Rock, Seton Hill and East Stroudsburg will play in the tournament that begins Thursday. 

The No. 1 seed in the Atlantic Region Pod 1 is West Chester. The Golden Rams were the second seed in the PSAC Tournament. They come in with an overall record of 29-11 and will host the pod. WCU is led on the mound by Brent Fausnaught who had a 3.46 ERA This season and finished with a 7-2 record. 

The No. 2 seed in the Atlantic Region will play host in Pod 2, and that squad is your 2022 PSAC Champions, the Millersville Marauders (41-12). Millersville won its fifth PSAC Tournament Title Saturday and will be led by PSAC East Player of the Year Thomas Caufield and PSAC Tournament MVP, Luke Trainer.

The third seed in the Atlantic Region is playing in Pod 2 is Gannon. The Golden Knights are another solid pitching squad in the league this season led by starters Eric Sapp (9-0) and Deven Judy (6-1). 

The fourth seed in the Atlantic Region and playing in Pod 1 is Slippery Rock (33-16). The Rock are the top offensive team in the PSAC coming in hitting .332 as a squad with big bats in the lineup like Koby Bubash, Joel Spishock and Connor Hamilton. The trio are each hitting over .400 this season. 

Fifth in this Atlantic Region tournament is Seton Hill. The Griffins are 31-17-1 this season overall and narrowly missed the PSAC Tournament. Seton Hill will be led by Jack Oberdorf who is batting .356 this year and has a 1.057 OPS. 

The final PSAC squad in this tournament is the sixth-seeded East Stroudsburg Warriors (37-17). ESU was the final seed in the PSAC East making the league Tournament on the last day, made a run in the PSAC Tournament finishing as the runner-up. ESU will have a pair of key hurlers in the tournament in Brent Francisco and Chase Nowak. Francisco comes in with 109 punchouts this year, which is the top mark in the PSAC. 

The Atlantic Region Tournament is set to begin Thursday with matchups listed below:

No. 1 WCU will await the winner of No. 4 Slippery Rock and No. 5 Seton Hill. That game is scheduled to begin Thursday, May 19 at 11 a.m.

In Pod 2, No. 3 Gannon will play No. 6 East Stroudsburg at 11 a.m. Thursday in the regional hosted by Millersville. Millersville will play at 2 p.m. against No. 7 seed Charleston (W.Va.) (37-16).
