The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference released the 2021-22 All-PSAC Major Award Winners for Women’s Swimming, the league office announced Thursday afternoon.
The awards are determined by a vote of the league’s head coaches. The top three finishers in each event at the PSAC Championships are recognized as all-conference performers. The list is linked above.
West Chester’s Ann Carozza dominated throughout the 2021-22 season in WCU’s return to the pool this season and it was evident in her accolades. Carozza set a new NCAA DII record in the 200-Fly and won the National Championship in the event after setting another national record in the 100-Fly prelims. She claimed All-American status in both events. She was a national qualifier in the 50-Free, the 100-Free, the 100-Fly, and 200-Fly after helping WCU gain 320 points at the PSAC meet winning the 50-Free, the 100-Free, the 100-Fly and the 200-Fly. Her performance helped WCU win the PSAC Women’s Title.
WCU’s Keeley Durkin earned Freshman of the Year honors after an outstanding first season. The Brookhaven, Pennsylvania native was a national qualifier in four events including the 200-Free, the 500-Free, the 1000-Free, and 1650-Free. She helped WCU earn 244 points in the PSAC meet winning the 500-Free, the 100-Free and the 1650-Free. She joins Carozza as the most recent West Chester Freshman of the Year honoree in the PSAC as she won in 2018-19.
Head Coach Steve Mazurek of West Chester captures his third PSAC Women’s Swimming Coach of the Year honor having previously won in 2019-20 and 2018-19. He helped the WCU women’s swimming squad win their 19th PSAC Swimming Championship Crown. He guided 10 Golden Rams to compete at national championships this year.
With Carozza, Durkin and Mazurek earning the major awards, it’s the sixth time that the Golden Rams have swept the PSAC major honorees.
