The University of Pennsylvania men's basketball team secured a victory against Harvard with an 82-67 win at Lavietes Pavilion. This marks Penn's third win at the venue in four years, improving their overall record to 5-11 and achieving their first Ivy League win this season, now standing at 1-2. Harvard, having previously defeated Brown, fell to a 6-10 overall record and is also 1-2 in conference play.
Penn showcased one of their best shooting performances of the season, hitting 29 out of 57 shots (.509) and making 11 out of 25 three-pointers (.440). The team recorded 17 assists against eight turnovers. Despite being outrebounded by Harvard (34-28), Penn managed to secure the win, marking only their second victory under such circumstances this season.
Junior Ethan Roberts led the Quakers with 21 points, while sophomore Sam Brown added another strong performance with 19 points. Senior Nick Spinoso contributed with 14 points and five rebounds. Freshman AJ Levine scored nine points and tied for team-high honors with four assists.
For Harvard, Chandler Pigge scored 15 points, Robert Hinton and Austin Hunt each had 13 points, and Thomas Batties II added another 12 points. Hunt also led his team with eight rebounds.
The game was closely contested until Penn made a decisive run late in both halves. In the first half, they extended their lead to seven after a series of plays including a half-court shot by Brown just before halftime. Although Harvard closed the gap to two points midway through the second half, Penn responded with an eight-point burst that reestablished their double-digit lead.
As time wound down, Penn maintained control thanks to key plays from Spinoso and Roberts that sealed the victory for the Quakers.
