Penn College archers performed well in their first outdoor competition of the season at the USA Eastern Regional Collegiate Championships, held at James Madison University. The event saw participation from 10 colleges and over 40 male archers.
The Wildcats achieved notable results, including a team championship, a second-place finish for another team, an individual runner-up, and several top-five finishes. The men's fixed pins team, consisting of Dyson Renn, Artley Cooper, and Jason Balmer, narrowly defeated James Madison University with a score of 198-197 to secure the gold medal. Meanwhile, the men's compound team of Noah Burke, Brandon Fisher, and Alex Edwards earned silver after losing to Alfred State in the final with a score of 209-190.
Individually, Dyson Renn finished second in men's fixed pins. Artley Cooper placed fourth in the same category. Grant Walters secured fourth place in men's barebow. Alexander Edwards took fifth place in men's compound. Additionally, Brandon Fisher came seventh in men's compound, Noah Burke was ninth in men's compound along with Jason Balmer who was ninth in men's fixed pins. Jon Vough ended up 13th in men's compound. For their performances, Renn and Burke were named to the All-East Team.
Coach Dustin Bartron expressed optimism about future competitions: "I am looking forward to our men's fixed pins and men's compound teams competing in the National Outdoor Collegiate Championships. Going into the NOCC, we have a few archers in the running to make the 2022 USA Archery Collegiate All-American Team."
The next event for Penn College is scheduled for May 19-22 at the USA Archery Collegiate Target Nationals at the Easton Archery Center of Excellence in Chula Vista, California.
