Penn College secured a 3-1 victory against Mount Aloysius in their home opener at Bardo Gymnasium on Tuesday night. This win marks the third consecutive victory for the Wildcats, improving their season record to 3-4, while Mount Aloysius now stands at 2-7.

Mount Aloysius initially took the lead by winning the first set 25-14. However, Penn College responded by taking the next three sets, including a closely contested fourth set that ended 28-26.

A pivotal moment occurred in the third set when Penn College overcame an early deficit of 8-2. The Wildcats capitalized on a service error from Mount Aloysius and launched a significant 22-7 run, including scoring 12 consecutive points to clinch the set. During this frame, Penn College achieved a hitting percentage of .261 with nine kills and five aces.

The fourth set saw both teams exchanging leads multiple times with nine ties and five lead changes. The Wildcats managed to recover from a seven-point lag (15-8) and tied the score five times before securing the final two points through Marianna Dariychuk and Lauren Hergert.

In terms of individual performances, Dariychuk led with 19.5 points (16 kills), Hergert contributed 15 points (9 kills), and Cheyenne Stein added ten points along with a team-high of 28 assists.

Overall, Penn College outhit Mount Aloysius .154 to .108 and forced them into committing 21 attack errors.

Looking ahead, Penn College aims to continue its winning streak with an upcoming match against Elmira College on Friday, September 15th at 6 p.m.
