Penn College junior Peyton Mussina achieved a 1-under 143 to earn the medalist honor as the Wildcats secured third place in a field of 15 teams at the Mountain Valley Classic over the weekend.
Mussina began the competition on Saturday with a round of 2-under 70 at Summit Country Club, located in Cresson. On Sunday, despite consecutive bogeys on holes 16 and 17, Mussina finished strong with a birdie on hole 18, resulting in a final score of 1-over 73 at Sinking Valley Country Club in Altoona. Other notable performances for Penn College included Will Orwig with scores of 80-80—160, tying for 23rd; Gavin Baer scoring 85-76—161, tying for 28th; Gunner Redmond with an 84-78—162 finish, tying for 32nd; and Trevor Keaton shooting 92-81—173 to tie for the 59th position.
The team title was claimed by Penn State Altoona "A," which shot rounds of 304-295—599. Westminster followed closely with scores of 304-298—602 to secure second place. The standings were completed by Penn College with scores of 319-307—626, followed by several other institutions including Penn State Altoona "B" and St. Vincent among others.
Individually, Jack Di Trani from PS Altoona "A" secured second place overall among the field of competitors with rounds totaling 74-71—145. His teammate Peter Nusbaum took third place with scores of 74-73—147.
Looking ahead, Penn College is set to participate in the Dickinson College Fall Classic on Sunday, September 24th at nine in the morning.
