The Pennsylvania College of Technology men's golf team is preparing to defend its title at the United East Championship this weekend. The event, held at Philmont Country Club in Huntingdon, offers the winner an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Championship.
Last spring, coach Rob Lytle praised his team's performance as a "great, great tune-up" and expressed confidence in their continued success. This season has been marked by competitive outings on challenging courses. Highlights include first-place finishes at the UE Fall Preview and Drew University Birdie Bash, and third-place results at various other tournaments.
Junior Peyton Mussina has led the team with three individual victories and four second-place finishes. His average score over 17 rounds is 73, including a career-best 67 in the Northeast Shootout.
Juniors Gavin Baer, Will Orwig, Trevor Keaton, and sophomore Gunner Redmond will join Mussina in representing Penn College.
"Our fall schedule has been exactly what we wanted — good competition and great golf courses," Lytle stated. He added that they are ready for the championship after performing well on Philmont's North Course last fall.
The championship field also includes teams from Clarks Summit University, Lancaster Bible College, several Penn State campuses, Rosemont College, Rutgers-Camden, and Wilson College.
