FOIA Request Sent to Williamsport City Firemen's Pension Plan Regarding Pension Rosters on September 20, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Williamsport City Firemen's Pension Plan on September 20, 2024. The request was made by Lycoming News, a media organization committed to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The request specifically asked for a list of all active and retired employees included in the organization's pension fund for the year 2023. The requested data fields include last name, first name, middle name, date of birth, employer name, employment start date, employment end date, salary, compensation type, amount, year, process date, last disbursement amount, disbursement frequency and the contribution amount for 2023.

As a media organization that focuses on governmental affairs reporting in Pennsylvania under the Right to Know Law (65 §66.1 et seq.), we at Lycoming News believe that access to public records is crucial in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

Given our role in disseminating information to the public and promoting transparency in government activities, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
