HARRISBURG – Rep. Stephanie Borowicz (R-Clinton/Union) voted against the 2024-25 state budget bill on Thursday, citing concerns over a $47.6 billion plan that represents a $2.7 billion, or 6%, increase from the previous fiscal year.

“This budget spends $3.3 billion more than anticipated revenues to be received within the fiscal year. Gov. Josh Shapiro inherited an $8.1 billion General Fund surplus, but after the passage of this budget, he will have spent it down to just $3.5 billion," Borowicz stated. "This budget will create over $500 million in new debt to the Commonwealth, which will take decades to pay off."

Borowicz further criticized the focus of the budget: “I am not surprised, nor should anyone else be, that Democrats’ focus in this budget is on spending today, without any regard for the future,” she said. “As President Ronald Reagan said, ‘Government does not solve problems. It subsidizes them.’ His words ring true as ever. This budget does not fix our broken systems; it just blindly throws money at the problem. I will always proudly vote against any budget which increases government spending, especially at a rate like this.”
