VB: The Bald Eagles notch 21 aces, power past Kutztown 3-1 at home

Volleyball

Lock Haven University Athletics  issued the following announcement on Nov. 12.

The Lock Haven University volleyball team (4-19, 2-11 PSAC) defeated Kutztown University (8-18, 3-10 PSAC), 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-15, 25-20), tonight at home in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.

The Bald Eagles played terrific at Thomas Fieldhouse tonight in front of their home crowd, splitting the first two sets with KU before winning the next two straight.

From beyond the back line, the LHU rotation dominated serving up a hefty 21 aces and notching just one error in the process. Gabriela Fialova (Ledec nad Sazavou, Czech Republic/ (Indian River)) and Kelly Gaston (Centennial, Colo./Grandview) logged six and five of those aces respectively.

Lock Haven's 21 aces tonight ties the leading mark in the league for service aces in a match this year. The mark also represents the most service aces recorded in a PSAC four-set match this season, and the most by an LHU team since the 2017 season.

Evie Jane Rembold (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) notched three of those aces in her own right, but most of her damage came on the front line. She managed a sterling .462 attacking percentage by way of her six kills on just 13 attacks. She added a huge solo block in the final set, disrupted the attempted comeback of the Kutztown contingent.

Fialova added to her already strong season with another 18 kills today. She totaled 24 points in the effort and a respectable .275 attacking percentage.

Regan Happ (Lighthouse Point, Fla./Westminster Academy) led the team in digs today with 21 in what was a sturdy effort for the defensive specialist. Gaston helped pace the offense and offered up 36 assists.
