The City of Williamsport will receive nearly $406,000 in state funding to upgrade a traffic signal at the intersection of High and Campbell streets. The funds are provided through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Multimodal Transportation Fund.
According to Rep. Jamie Flick (R-Lycoming/Union), the goal is to improve both safety and traffic flow for motorists, pedestrians, and local businesses in the area. “Keeping our transportation infrastructure safe and up to date is essential for protecting the traveling public and supporting economic activity in our communities,” said Flick. “This investment will help address traffic concerns at a busy intersection and ensure Williamsport residents and visitors can move through the area more safely and efficiently.”
Williamsport Mayor Derek Slaughter also commented on the grant: “I want to thank Gov. Josh Shapiro, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Rep. Flick and Sen Gene Yaw for their strong support in securing this $406,000 grant. This important investment will allow us to modernize our traffic signals, improve safety and mobility for residents and pedestrians, and better support the businesses that rely on safe and efficient transportation every day.”
The Multimodal Transportation Fund supports projects that enhance community transportation assets, pedestrian safety, transit revitalization, as well as improvements by municipalities, public agencies, businesses, ports, and rail freight entities.
