Rep. Jamie Flick and Rep. Joe Hamm have announced that the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce will receive a $20,000 grant from America250PA. This funding is part of the Semiquincentennial Grants initiative and will be used for the restoration of a Pennsylvania Railroad sleeper-lounge car.
“As we prepare to celebrate America’s 250th birthday, I’m proud to support efforts that showcase everything Lycoming County has to offer,” said Flick, who serves on the House Tourism, Recreation and Economic Development Committee. “Restoring a historic railcar not only honors our past, but it also invites people to visit, learn and invest in our future.”
Hamm congratulated the chamber on receiving the grant: “Lycoming County has a strong connection to our Country’s Founding as the Fair Play Men met beneath the Tiadaghton Elm on July 4, 1776 to make their own declaration of independence from Britain,” he stated. “This project will continue that tradition dating back to the birth of our Great Nation.”
America250PA aims to support educational, civic, and celebratory events in Pennsylvania as part of its contribution to marking the United States’ 250th birthday in 2026. The demand for these grants was high with 440 applicants requesting over $6 million.
