State Senator Gene Yaw and State Representative Tina Pickett have announced the allocation of over $2 million for community improvement and economic development projects in Bradford County. The funding was approved during a meeting of the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) in Harrisburg.
Senator Yaw highlighted the significance of the awards, stating, "The awards announced today will be incredibly impactful for our communities by funding important economic development, infrastructure, public safety and recreation projects." He emphasized the necessity of these improvements due to outdated infrastructure that has not been upgraded in decades. Yaw expressed gratitude towards Representative Pickett for her collaboration in securing this funding.
Representative Pickett underscored the challenges faced by small municipalities with limited budgets, saying, "Limited budgets often make it difficult for small municipalities to purchase much-needed equipment or undertake important infrastructure projects. That’s why state funding support is critical in helping local officials provide basic municipal services to their residents."
Several projects received financial support through the Local Share Account (LSA) Statewide program. Stacy Schoonover, Towanda Borough Manager, expressed appreciation for the advocacy of Senator Yaw and Representative Pickett. "This funding will provide much needed upgrades to maintenance equipment, repair critical infrastructure and improve recreational facilities," Schoonover said.
Robert Williams, Chairman of Wysox Township Municipal Authority, described how grant funding would assist with essential repairs and improvements at Pump Station No. 5. "This addresses a critical infrastructure need of the Authority," Williams noted while thanking Senator Yaw and Representative Pickett for their dedication to Authority customers.
The PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act allows for gaming revenues distribution through CFA to back public interest projects across Pennsylvania. Established in 2004 as an independent agency within the Department of Community and Economic Development, CFA evaluates applications based on criteria such as cost and strategic importance.
