State Senator Gene Yaw and State Representative Jamie Flick have announced that over $3.5 million in state funding has been awarded to four projects in Lycoming and Union Counties. The funding was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) through various programs aimed at improving water and sewer infrastructure and supporting arts and culture.

Sen. Yaw expressed his satisfaction with the approved funds, stating, "The funds approved today are valuable investments that are good for our citizens and good for our environment." He also commended the collaboration between himself, Rep. Flick, and local officials in making these projects a reality.

Rep. Flick emphasized the importance of infrastructure for the success of a community, stating, "We simply cannot maintain or draw more businesses to our community or provide exceptional quality of life to our residents without updating our water and sewer services and capabilities." He further added, "Today marks a triumph for our community, as these grant dollars dedicated to infrastructure projects in the 83rd district are critical to our community’s success today and in the future."

The largest share of the funding, $3 million, was awarded to the Williamsport Sanitary Authority for its Sanitary Sewer Bloomingrove Road Environmental Protection Project. The Authority also received $423,725 for its Bull Run Pump Station Safety Improvements Project. Michael Miller, Executive Director of the Williamsport Sanitary Authority and Municipal Water Authority, expressed appreciation for the funding, stating, "Funding for these critical water and sewer projects benefit the residents of Williamsport with improvements to essential public infrastructure which is used by all on a daily basis."

In addition to the Williamsport Sanitary Authority, two other projects received funding. The Lycoming County Historical Society was awarded $16,818 for the History Museum or Historical Site located in the City of Williamsport. The Gregg Township Municipal Authority in Union County received $90,000 for its Wastewater Treatment Plant Equipment Upgrade.

The grants are funded from multiple sources, with the largest being federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) money appropriated for recreation and conservation as part of previous Pennsylvania state budgets.

This investment in infrastructure and the arts is seen as a significant boost for the communities in Lycoming and Union Counties. The funding will not only improve essential services but also contribute to the overall quality of life for residents. Sen. Yaw and Rep. Flick's efforts in advocating for these grants highlight their commitment to the development and prosperity of the region.
