Nate Carr Jr., who has spent the last six seasons as the assistant coach of the Lock Haven University Division I men's wrestling team, has accepted the position of head men's wrestling coach at Davidson College, as recently announced by the Wildcats.
Coach Carr leaves Mat-Town U.S.A after playing a pivotal role in returning LHU wrestling to the national spotlight, including the program's first ever Mid-American Conference (MAC) championship in 2022. LHU also captured back-to-back dual Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) titles in 2018 and 2019.
During Carr's tenure, he was instrumental in guiding four student-athletes to achieve All-American status at the Division I Wrestling Championships (2019: Chance Marsteller, Kyle Shoop. 2018: Ronnie Perry, Chance Marsteller). Carr's guidance saw current LHU assistant coach Ronnie Perry become the first 15-seed to reach a national final during his Cinderella-run to the 149-pound finals in 2018.
Since Carr was hired in 2016, 13 Bald Eagles have earned either EWL or MAC individual conference crowns (10 EWL, 3 MAC), including most recently at the 2022 MAC Championships as Anthony Noto claimed the 125-pound title and Ben Barton captured the top spot at 155 lbs. to propel The Haven to the team title.
"For the past six years, I've been blessed to serve as Lock Haven University's assistant wrestling coach," said Carr. "In that time, I've learned, grown and achieved far more what I thought possible. Thank you to Haven Nation. I am so grateful for all the relationships I've built at Lock Haven and I will forever cherish my time as a Bald Eagle."
The Davidson College Wildcats wrestling program competes at the Division I level in the Southern Conference (SOCON), since joining for wrestling in 2014. In 2021, the Wildcats finished the SOCON schedule at 3-5.
