Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania issued the following announcement on Jan. 14.
SHOWN FROM LEFT, ARE JORDI POU, THECAPSOUL; DR. GERARD MARTORELL, LHU FACULTY MEMBER; AND SILVIANA MALLIA, THECAPSOUL MARKETING MANAGER.
On Dec. 20, 2021, Dr. Gerard Martorell, LHU faculty member, visited the European coffee and tea company Coffee Centers. The company recently supported the LHU Pitch Competition by donating $1,000 for prizes to the students. Martorell visited their headquarters to thank them for their support of LHU students.
Among the projects in the competition, LHU entrepreneurship students developed last fall, a group studied the possibilities of opening Coffee Center operations in North America with their brand TheCapSoul. The pitch competition was so intense this year that it was decided to split the prizes among the different groups.
"We are glad to support LHU students this year," said Jordi Pou, Coffee Center CEO. "Launching our brand in the U.S. is a new opportunity that can see light in the next few months."
"Providing challenging and interesting experiential learning projects to our students is key to ensure the competitiveness of our students in the job market," Martorell said. "That is why it is of utmost importance to develop a network of contacts with companies and organizations that our students can work with."
All projects that were presented have applied for the State System Startup Challenge organized by Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education. The final event is set for April, in which prize money of up to $10,000 could help fuel the students' projects.
