East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania issued the following announcement.
Theodore Mostellar, an East Stroudsburg University senior from Stroudsburg, Pa. majoring in athletic training, has been selected as a recipient of the 2021 District 2 Paula Turocy Scholarship Award by the Eastern Athletic Trainers Association (EATA). The scholarship honors “outstanding students from the EATA membership who have excelled academically and clinically as professional (entry-level) athletic training students.”
Mostellar will be acknowledged at a pre-recorded virtual award ceremony during the EATA Conference on Saturday, January 9, 2021 starting at 5:15 p.m. He was one of 11 athletic training students who received the prestigious award and will receive a $3,000 scholarship and a plaque. According to the EATA, “these awards are meant to encourage the recipients to continue their education toward a professional athletic training degree and pursue a career in athletic training.”
The scholarship is awarded to seniors in a four-year program or students in the second year of a professional entry-level Master’s degree program, based on five criteria: performing with distinction as a member of the athletic training program; distinguishing oneself academically; signifying an intention to continue academic work towards an undergraduate or Master’s degree as a full-time professional athletic training student; intention to pursue the profession of athletic training as a means of a livelihood; and conducting oneself in a manner that has brought credit to themselves, their institution and program, and the ideals and objectives of American higher education.
Beyond his academic schedule, Mostellar is also involved in a number of initiatives at ESU, including the cross country and indoor track and field teams, athletic training student club, Iota Tau Alpha (the athletic training honor society) chapter president, student athlete advisory committee (SAAC) and he volunteers as part of several of the University’s service learning initiatives.
