State Senator Gene Yaw announced that $735,000 in state funding has been allocated to two projects in Union County through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA). The funds were approved during a recent CFA Board meeting and come from the Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF) Program and the Small Water and Sewer (SWS) Program.
“Today’s awards will enhance public safety and ensure our region’s infrastructure meets the needs of residents for years to come,” Yaw said. “I was pleased to advocate for this funding and work with my colleagues in the General Assembly and our local officials to help make these projects a reality.”
East Buffalo Township received $410,000 from the MTF for improvements on West Market Street. The project will install sidewalks, lighting, and streetscaping, which are expected to improve pedestrian access to downtown Lewisburg, local parks, community pool, as well as elementary and middle schools.
The Borough of Mifflinburg was awarded $325,000 under the SWS Program for its Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project. The funds will support replacing 800 linear feet of sanitary sewer lines, manholes, and lateral connections.
“The Borough of Mifflinburg appreciates the support that Sen. Yaw’s office has provided for the Borough’s CFA application,” said Borough Manager Margaret Metzger. “These funds will help the Borough complete some vital improvements to the Borough’s sewer collection system, improving service to customers.”
The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants aimed at supporting economic development by improving transportation systems across Pennsylvania. Eligible uses include rehabilitation or enhancement of transportation assets such as streetscapes, lighting, sidewalk upgrades, pedestrian safety measures, connectivity between transport modes, and transit-oriented development.
The Small Water and Sewer Program offers grants for small-scale water, sewer, or stormwater infrastructure projects. Municipalities or authorities maintaining public water supply or sanitary systems can apply if their project costs exceed $30,000.
