Nearly $2.5 million in state funding has been allocated to support infrastructure projects in Lycoming and Union counties, according to an announcement by Rep. Jamie Flick (R-Lycoming/Union) and Sen. Gene Yaw (R-Bradford/Lycoming/Sullivan/Tioga/Union). The Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) approved the awards during its recent board meeting, with funding distributed through the Multimodal Transportation Fund Program (MTF) and Small Water and Sewer Program (SWS).
Rep. Flick stated, “Funding for these projects will help the city with safety measures during events, further connect the bike and walking trail system from the riverwalk to other parts of the community, and rebuild decades-old water and sewer systems to better, more safely serve residents and businesses in the district. I am thankful to work with Sen. Yaw to secure this critical funding.”
Sen. Yaw added, “Today’s awards will enhance public safety and ensure our region’s infrastructure meets the needs of residents for years to come. I was pleased to join Rep. Flick in advocating for this funding to help make these projects a reality.”
The funded projects in Lycoming County include $1,250,000 for construction on the Susquehanna River Walk Extension Trail, $290,403 for Williamsport City’s 4th Street Bollard Project aimed at improving event safety, $100,000 each for West Branch Regional Authority’s Brady Township Regionalization project and SR 54 Low Pressure Sewer Extension under SWS grants, as well as $225,000 for Williamsport Municipal Water Authority’s advanced metering infrastructure.
In Union County, White Deer Township Sewer Authority received $500,000 from SWS funds for replacing its New Columbia Pump Station.
The MTF is designed to promote economic development by supporting transportation improvements such as trail connectivity and pedestrian safety upgrades within communities across Pennsylvania. The SWS program assists municipalities with essential water-related infrastructure upgrades when project costs exceed $30,000.
