A project aimed at refurbishing County Bridge #19 on Pohopco Drive in Towamensing Township has been granted $600,000 in state funding. This announcement was made by Representative Doyle Heffley and Senator Dave Argall. The bridge, which crosses Beltzville Lake and Pine Run, is an essential access point to Beltzville State Park and the largest public boat launch in Carbon County. Repairing and extending the life of this bridge has been a priority for Carbon County officials.

Representative Heffley expressed satisfaction with the allocation of resources to Carbon County, emphasizing the importance of the bridge as a crucial link for the community. “This is one of the largest county bridges, and it’s a crucial link for the community. The funds will help preserve the bridge structure for the long term and offset the county’s repair costs,” Heffley stated.

Senator Argall highlighted that this competitive state funding would not only repair a bridge but also support local employers and provide access to recreational opportunities at Beltzville Lake. It would also facilitate quick visits for residents to nearby areas such as Jim Thorpe and Lehighton.

The funding comes from the Multimodal Transportation Fund, which offers grants to foster economic development while ensuring a safe transportation system. These grants were approved during a public meeting held by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency responsible for overseeing Pennsylvania’s economic growth programs and investments.
