Senator Gene Yaw (R-23) held his annual “Breakfast Meeting on Agriculture” in Shunk, Sullivan County, bringing together representatives from agriculture and agribusiness sectors in Bradford and Sullivan counties. The event took place at the Endless Winds Fire Hall and included participation from Secretary Russell Redding of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, local farmers, agribusiness professionals, FFA students, dairy royalty, teachers, and elected officials.
“Each year, the discussion is intended to create a friendly dialogue and exchange of ideas on agricultural and environmental topics impacting our region,” Yaw said. “The meeting is also designed to listen to concerns and answer questions. I am thankful to all of our attendees for joining us this year to help highlight important issues facing the industry.”
A key topic during the meeting was farm legacy and succession planning. Michelle Kirk of PA Farm Link addressed attendees on this subject. “Farm succession is one of the most important topics facing our farmers today,” Kirk said. “Things can change in the blink of an eye, so having a succession plan in place is vital for the continuance of your farm.”
Yaw expressed appreciation for those involved with organizing the event. “I’m incredibly grateful for the event’s generous sponsors, volunteers and speakers,” he said. “Your continued support and engagement are what make this annual gathering such a great tradition for our region’s agricultural community.”
