According to Pennsylvania State Senator Gene Yaw, the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (PBDA) has awarded 85 laptops to Advance Central PA. This initiative is part of a grant process established by the U.S. Department of Treasury.
“This funding will help our workforce access the technology they need to train, search for jobs and stay connected to opportunities,” said Yaw. “These laptops will directly support individuals working to build careers, especially in rural communities where resources are limited. I’m pleased to see this investment in our region.”
The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Capital Projects Fund, which allocated $279 million for critical capital projects in Pennsylvania. Of this amount, $20 million was designated for non-profits, community anchor institutions, and municipal governments to purchase laptops for local citizens.
These laptops will enable users to connect to high-speed internet for essential services such as work and education and aim to improve digital literacy. The use of these laptops is free of charge.
This initiative is part of a broader mission by the Commonwealth to enhance community infrastructure and create accessible public spaces that serve as vital resources for work, education, and health. By improving access to high-speed internet through these devices, Pennsylvania aims to equip its communities for current and future needs.
Advance Central PA serves as the workforce development organization in Senator Yaw’s district covering Lycoming and Union counties. It connects job seekers with career opportunities through training, job placement, and employer partnerships.
