State Senator Gene Yaw (R-23) recently spoke to the Pennsylvania Chemical Industry Council (PCIC) at their quarterly Board of Directors meeting, which took place at the Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport. Yaw, who chairs the Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee, provided a legislative update and outlined his committee’s priorities for 2026.
“It was a pleasure to join PCIC at their recent meeting in Williamsport,” Yaw said. “Pennsylvania’s chemical industry is an important piece of the puzzle in crafting energy and environmental policy and PCIC members play a key role in representing that industry. I am thankful to the Council for including me in their discussion.”
Yaw told council members that his focus areas include strengthening Pennsylvania’s energy sector, maintaining economic competitiveness, updating regulations, ensuring grid reliability, and supporting incentives for new dispatchable generation to ensure reliable electricity during peak demand. He also discussed bipartisan legislation he sponsored aimed at restricting firefighting foams containing polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), an issue long supported by PCIC.
“We are grateful to Sen. Yaw for his continued advocacy and for joining us to discuss the future of our industry,” said Steve Kratz, President of PCIC. “Pennsylvania’s chemical industry is a vital engine for our economy and a leader in environmental progress, creating the essential products we all rely on for modern life. The Senator’s leadership acts as a catalyst for the innovation and investment needed to keep our communities strong and our manufacturing and energy future secure.”
The PCIC serves as an advocacy group representing Pennsylvania’s chemical industry and has operated across the state for over three decades.
Yaw represents communities in Bradford, Lycoming, Sullivan, Tioga, and Union counties and chairs the Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee. He previously served as Lycoming County solicitor for 17 years, earning recognition as Solicitor of the Year in 2004. Yaw has also provided legal counsel to the Pennsylvania College of Technology for more than two decades and has chaired its board since 2013. In addition to his legislative work, he has contributed to community activities such as coaching youth sports like Little League Baseball and soccer.
