The April edition of the local television program hosted by Pennsylvania State Senator Dave Argall takes an in-depth look at effective strategies for flood prevention and mitigation. The program highlights successful measures that protect communities from flood damage.

The program includes insights from a recent Senate Majority Policy Committee hearing held in Williamsport. It was led by Senator Gene Yaw and chaired by Senator Argall. At this hearing, engineers and local officials discussed the importance of stream maintenance. They illustrated how maintaining streams can shield homes, roads, and businesses from flood damage, referring to their efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Debby.

The program also highlights a flood mitigation and wetlands project at Swatara Creek in western Schuylkill County. This initiative has proven effective in reducing flooding in the areas of Pine Grove and Tremont. Senator Argall took a tour of the project alongside Representative Joanne Stehr. The effort was the result of collaboration between conservationists, municipal officials, and various state entities, backed by nearly $3 million from the Growing Greener program.

“Pine Grove and Tremont are the perfect example of how much of a difference we can make,” noted Argall. He emphasized the impact of the Growing Greener program, which he sponsored. Argall also mentioned the potential need for updates to the program.

This edition of the Argall Report airs on local networks and can be accessed online at Senator Argall’s official website. Any inquiries should be directed to Jim Brugger.
