PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Big 5 has announced its All-Big 5 teams and postseason accolades for the 2024-25 men’s basketball season. Sam Brown from Penn has been recognized as a second-team All-Big 5 member by the head coaches in the city. Brown was also a second-team All-Ivy selection this year.
Brown participated in all 27 games for Penn, tying for the team lead with 26 starts. He averaged 13.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per game while also contributing 61 assists, 20 steals, and 52 three-point baskets. Brown was the top scorer for the Quakers in six matches and recorded double-figure points in 19 games, including four games where he scored 20 or more points. In Ivy play, Brown led the Ancient Eight players in scoring with an average of 19.3 points per game and a free-throw percentage of .891. He ranked second in 3-point field goal percentage at .430, and was sixth in both 3-pointers per game (2.6) and assist-turnover ratio (2.28).
Remarkably, Brown made history in the final Ivy League weekend by scoring 42 points in the Quakers’ 92-87 victory at Columbia. This achievement marked just the fourth 40-point game in the history of the program, the most by a Penn player since Hassan Duncombe scored 44 against Navy on December 8, 1989.
Other acknowledgments included Villanova’s Eric Dixon, who was named Big 5 Player of the Year and was also the leading scorer in the Big 5. La Salle’s Deuce Jones took the Rookie of the Year title, and Billy Lange from Saint Joseph’s was selected as the Coach of the Year. Drexel’s Cole Hargrove received the Most Improved Player award. Saint Joseph’s secured two awards, with Justice Ajogbor being the Scholar-Athlete Award recipient and Xzayvier Brown named the Big 5’s top free-throw shooter.
