The Ivy League and Philadelphia Big 5 have announced their weekly awards in men’s basketball, with University of Pennsylvania sophomore guard Sam Brown receiving significant recognition. Brown was named the Ivy League Player of the Week and shared the Big 5 Men’s Player of the Week honors with Villanova senior forward Eric Dixon.

This marks Brown’s second Big 5 weekly honor this season and his first Ivy weekly honor since being named Rookie of the Week three times last season.

Brown delivered an impressive performance by scoring 42 points in Penn’s 92-87 victory over Columbia on Saturday. This achievement marked only the fourth 40-point game in program history and the first since December 8, 1989. It also represented the highest point total by an Ivy League player in a game since Bryce Aiken of Harvard scored 44 against Columbia in 2019. During the game, Brown shot 14-20 from the field, including making four out of six three-pointers, and went 10-11 at the foul line. Notably, he scored 26 points in the second half alone, marking a record for a Penn player in a half since December 22, 2010. Additionally, Brown contributed four assists during this match.

In a prior game against Cornell, Brown tied for game-high scoring honors with 19 points.

Currently, Brown ranks second among Ivy League players in conference scoring with an average of 19.3 points per game after averaging just eight points per game across Penn’s non-conference games. He has consistently hit double figures in scoring throughout all thirteen Ivy games this season.

Penn’s team (8-18 overall and 4-9 within the Ivy League) is set to conclude its season on Saturday against Princeton at Jadwin Gymnasium at 2 p.m.
