Penn College senior wrestler Noah Hunt concluded his season and career at the NCAA Division III Championships in Providence, R.I., after losing his first two matches. In the 141-pound pigtail match, Hunt was defeated by Sean Conway of the University of Chicago with an 18-4 major decision. Conway advanced to the semifinals, securing at least an All-American honor.

In the consolation round against Bradley Rosen from North Central Illinois, a three-time NCAA qualifier, Hunt was pinned in 2:54. Rosen had previously lost to top-seeded Josh Wilson of Greensboro by an 8-6 decision.

Coach Dalton Rohrbaugh expressed pride in Hunt’s performance despite the losses. “Although not the outcome Noah or our coaching staff wanted, we all walked out of the arena with our heads held high,” Rohrbaugh said. He emphasized that sometimes matches do not go as planned even when no mistakes are made.

Rohrbaugh praised Hunt for competing to his fullest ability and highlighted his achievements. Hunt finished this season with a 19-8 record and set a program record with 103 wins and 50 defeats over his career. He is also noted for being the only Wildcat with four podium finishes at NCAA Regionals and just the second wrestler from Penn College to qualify for the NCAA tournament.

“Today is a difficult day for him as his goal was to be standing on the podium, but today does not take away from the storied career he has had,” Rohrbaugh stated. He acknowledged Hunt’s embodiment of Penn College wrestling values and plans to use him as an example for future athletes.

“All we can really say right now is thank you, Noah Hunt.”
