Penn College secured a narrow victory over Penn State Brandywine with a score of 19-18 in their United East baseball matchup on Saturday. The proposed second game was postponed due to poor weather conditions. Currently, the Wildcats hold a 9-3 conference record and 16-14 overall, while the Lions stand at 1-11 in the conference and 5-25 overall.

The game featured a significant comeback by Penn College, overcoming an early 9-0 deficit. They managed three runs each in the third and fourth innings, one run in the fifth, and five in the sixth, closing the gap to 13-12. Shawn Townsend hit a home run in the seventh to tie the game, followed by Matt Munoz’s two-run home run, giving the Wildcats a 15-13 lead.

However, Brandywine reclaimed the lead with five runs in the ninth, pushing them to an 18-16 advantage. In a dramatic turn, the Wildcats responded in the bottom of the ninth. John Croasdale initiated the rally with a double, and Dallas Griess got on base due to an error. Senior player Nathan Gustkey hit a crucial double to even the score. Intentional walks to Purnell and Townsend ensued before Jaydon Goebel clinched the win with a single up the middle.

Among the standout players, Levi Purnell delivered two home runs and four RBIs. Goebel contributed four hits, with Munoz adding a three-run homer and three hits. Gustkey and Townsend each added three hits as well.

The teams are set to face off again on Monday at 4 p.m. for their second game.
