Penn College defeated Valley Forge in a softball doubleheader on April 18, winning the first game 1-0 and the second game 24-0. The Wildcats improved their league record to 8-2 and their overall record to 23-5, while the Patriots fell to 2-10 in conference play and 7-18 overall.
The games highlight Penn College’s strong performance as they approach the end of their regular season. The victories further secure their position in league standings ahead of upcoming away games.
In the opening game, Sam Shaw scored Ryleigh Rinker from third base with a bunt single in the sixth inning, breaking a scoreless tie. Mackenzi Tice secured her fourteenth win by striking out all three batters she faced in the seventh inning. Tice tallied nine strikeouts over three innings of relief, while Alivia Bizzarri allowed only two hits during her initial three and one-third innings pitched.
The second game saw Penn College amass thirteen runs in the second inning alone, followed by nine more runs in the third and two additional runs in the fourth for a total of twenty-four runs. Nine different players recorded hits; Sofia Mileto, Payton Crawford, and Ryleigh Rinker each had three hits apiece. Crawford led with seven runs batted in—including both a triple and a double—while Mileto scored four times. Carissa Lusk, Rinker, and Tice each crossed home plate three times. On defense, Tice pitched a complete-game shutout with ten strikeouts while allowing just three hits.
Looking ahead, Penn College will finish its regular season conference schedule on the road next week against Keystone on Tuesday, Penn State Harrisburg on Thursday, and Gallaudet on Saturday.
