Penn College tennis teams defeated Cairn University on Apr. 18 in United East Conference play, with the men’s team winning 4-3 and the women’s team winning 5-2, securing third seeds for both squads as they head into the conference playoffs next Saturday.
This result positions both Penn College teams to host first-round matches at home, a key advantage as postseason play begins. The men’s team improved its record to 5-2 in conference and 7-6 overall, while the women finished regular season conference play at 6-3 and hold a 7-10 overall record. Cairn’s men ended at 1-6 in conference and their women at 6-3.
In men’s singles competition, Kyle Shuler won at No.1 (6-3, 6-1), Matt Williams prevailed at No.4 (6-3, 6-2), and Avery Hawk secured victory at No.5 (6-4, 6-0). Doubles wins came from Shuler-Josh Myers (No.1 doubles) with a score of 6-3 and Logan Ogden-Williams (No.2 doubles) with a score of 6-4. For the women’s side, all five singles matches were won by Penn College: Lauren Peck (No.2), Faith Murray (No.3), Leah Vest (No.4), Kiera Wene (No.5), and Cici Miller (No.6). The only doubles win for the Wildcats came from Murray-Wene at No.2.
