Coming off their most successful regular season, the Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s lacrosse team and coach Jordan Williams are not resting on past laurels. The Wildcats, the second-seeded team, will host third-seeded Bryn Athyn College at 4 p.m. on Wednesday in the United East Conference semifinal. The winner will face top-seeded St. Mary’s (Md.) College, the perennial champion, on Saturday for the conference title.
During the season, Penn College posted a 13-4 overall record and a 3-1 conference record. Bryn Athyn holds a 1-3 conference record and is 3-6-1 overall, while St. Mary’s is undefeated in the conference at 4-0, with a 9-7 overall record. The Wildcats won decisively against Bryn Athyn with a 28-3 victory last Saturday, but they were defeated by St. Mary’s 26-7 on March 22.
Coach Jordan Williams reflected on the team’s achievements, “I think we broke nearly every record we had, whether offense, defense, or faceoff. It’s been really cool to see. And we avenged four losses from last year. We didn’t just want to beat the teams that we were better than last year; we wanted to beat the teams that beat us.”
The team has shown strong camaraderie, which has been crucial to their success, according to Williams. “We have a group of guys who believe in trying to get better every single day. It’s a different focus than we’ve had in prior years,” he said, highlighting the positive team dynamics.
Williams emphasized the importance of not underestimating Bryn Athyn, despite their prior victory over them. If they advance to face St. Mary’s, maintaining composure will be key. “We have to realize that we belong there because we earned it. We can play with any team on our schedule,” Williams stated.
Statistically, the Wildcats have outperformed their opponents significantly, outscoring them 278-144 and leading in shots on goal, ground balls, and faceoffs. Key players include brothers Eliot and AJ Dotson from Wilmington, Del., and Owen Kupsey from Chadds Ford, who lead the offensive stats. Levi Borkowski, Antonio Santora, and Brody Borkowski are notable faceoff leaders, while Ryan Twist of Great Meadows, N.J., has been solid in goal.
Coach Williams concluded by expressing confidence in his team, “I think this is the best version of our team that we’ve had in the past five years. The ultimate goal is, let’s go out and see what we can do for 60 minutes and let’s close the gap.”
