Penn College’s men’s and women’s cross-country teams competed in the United East Conference Championships hosted by Penn State Brandywine on Saturday. The men’s team finished third out of ten, while the women’s team placed fifth among eight teams.
For the Wildcats, Alexis Durn led the women with an eighth-place finish in a field of 68 runners, recording a personal-best time of 26:12 in the 6K race. Elaina Brady finished 17th and was also recognized as the Women’s Elite 21 Academic Award winner. Ellie Miller took 23rd place, followed by Natalie Greiner in 39th, Gwynn Johnson in 40th, Adelyn McDermott in 41st with a season-best time, and Isabella Telford in 63rd.
Durn earned all-conference first-team honors for her performance. Brady was named to the second team and Miller to the third team.
On the men’s side, Mitchell Campbell finished 12th among 84 competitors with a time of 30:36.12 over the 8K course. He was closely followed by Chase Ebeling (13th), Ben Causak (18th), Holden Furey (20th), Aaron Guerrisky (23rd), Ethan Knapp (25th), Ben Heym (27th), Oliver Galicki (28th), Jacob Parker (38th), Owen Troop (39th), JJ Pencil (40th), Matthew Wheeland (54th), Jackson Small (60th), and Nathan Love (65th).
Campbell, Ebeling, and Causak were named to the all-conference second team. Furey, Guerrisky, Knapp, and Heym made the third team.
In overall team scoring for men, Penn State Berks won with St. Mary’s College of Maryland finishing second ahead of Penn College. For women’s teams, St. Mary’s College took first place.
Individually, Gallaudet’s Sevan Ikeda won the men’s race with a time of 27:23; Cairn’s Clarisse Hayden led the women’s field at 23:58.
Penn College will next compete at the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship at Big Spring High School in Newville on November 15. The men’s race is scheduled for 11 a.m., followed by the women at noon.
