Penn College captures lacrosse victory over Alvernia with 8-3 score

Penn College emerged victorious over Alvernia in a nonconference men’s lacrosse match held on Wednesday night in Reading, Pennsylvania. The Wildcats improved their record to 7-3, while the Golden Wolves fell to 6-2 after the encounter.

The match commenced with Owen Kupsey scoring the first goal with just over 12 minutes left in the first quarter. Kupsey quickly extended the Wildcats’ lead with another goal less than a minute later, assisted by Elliot Dotson. Alvernia equalized with two goals, but Harrison Schlachta restored the lead for the Wildcats before the end of the quarter.

Kupsey completed his hat trick in the second quarter with a lone goal, paving the way for Penn College to accumulate three more goals in the third quarter and one in the fourth. This game was noted as Penn College’s lowest-scoring victory since March 5, 2022, when they won 8-5 against Immaculata.

Kupsey led the Wildcats by scoring four of the team’s eight goals. AJ Dotson added two goals, while Harrison Schlachta and Gage Mcclune each managed one. The team’s defensive efforts were highlighted by Elliot Dotson, Austin Callahan, and Graham Rex, each causing two turnovers. Mason Nester excelled in ground ball recoveries with a total of four. Goalkeeper Ryan Twist made 17 saves, achieving an .850 save percentage.

Looking forward, Penn College is set to host Neumann for the first time at UPMC Field on Saturday at 1 p.m.
