Penn College’s baseball team participated in the Ripken Experience during their spring break week in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The team’s performance included a split series against WPI on Sunday, March 9.

In the first game of the series, Penn College secured a narrow victory with a 10-9 win. Jaiden Augustine played a crucial role by delivering a two-run walk-off single. Augustine ended the game with two hits out of five at-bats, contributing two RBIs and scoring once. Levi Purnell, Shawn Townsend, and Jaydon Goebel each had two hits in this match, while Matt Munoz drove in three runs.

The Engineers initially took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Penn College responded with a 2-1 advantage after Purnell’s two-run single scored Nathan Gutkey and Augustine. McGuire Heverly added another run with an RBI single in the third inning. WPI managed to score one run in the fourth and added two more in the second inning before Penn College tied it at 5-5. This was achieved through Goebel’s two-run single and Munoz’s two-run triple to right field.

In the seventh inning, WPI gained a temporary lead with four runs, making it 9-7. However, Penn College clinched victory when Kevin Cute hit a double to left field and Goebel singled to put runners on the corners with no outs. Munoz brought Cute home with a sacrifice fly to center field, and Dallas Griess singled to set up Augustine’s decisive hit as Griess crossed home plate ahead of the tag.

WPI bounced back in game two of the series with a convincing 10-1 win over Penn College.

Monday’s games were canceled due to rain.

On Tuesday, March 11, Penn College is scheduled for a doubleheader against Penn State York at 3 PM and 6 PM. The following day features another doubleheader against Hilbert College at 12:30 PM and 3:30 PM.
