Penn College baseball secured a 28-18 victory over Saint Elizabeth in a United East Conference match held on Wednesday afternoon. This win advanced the Wildcats’ standing to 10-4 in league games and 17-15 overall, while Saint Elizabeth University’s record fell to 66-8 in the conference and 14-21 overall.

The game began with the Wildcats taking a strong lead. In the first inning, Ethan Stahl started with a single, followed by walks for Nathan Gustkey and Levi Purnell, loading the bases. Shawn Townsend’s single brought in Stahl, and Matt Munoz hit a two-run double. Brandon Shane and Stahl each contributed to the team’s fifth run for a 5-0 lead in the opening inning. The Wildcats continued their streak, scoring a total of 16 runs by the third inning.

The Penn College team also capitalized on an error by Saint Elizabeth in the fourth inning and added more to their tally with a Gustkey solo home run in the fifth inning. Although Saint Elizabeth closed the gap to 20-18 by the seventh inning, the Wildcats responded with eight consecutive runs in the final innings, securing their win.

Ethan Stahl achieved a personal best with six hits in seven at-bats, collecting three RBIs and scoring four times. Gustkey contributed with four hits, matching Stahl’s four runs and RBIs, including his third home run of the season. Townsend led the team with six scores, achieved over a three-hit game with four RBIs.

Pitcher Wyatt Hershey notched his second win of the season, having been on the mound for two innings.

Penn College is set to conclude its regular season with a conference doubleheader against Notre Dame on Saturday at noon.
