Penn College’s baseball team has received significant recognition in the United East All-Conference awards, with five players being honored. Freshman Levi Purnell was named United East Rookie of the Year and made it to the third team. Sophomores Dallas Griess and Shawn Townsend earned first-team honors, while Jaydon Goebel and Matt Munoz were selected for the second team.
The Wildcats’ achievements contributed to an 11-5 conference record and a return to the United East playoffs as the No. 4 seed. This marks the most postseason selections for Penn College since joining NCAA competition, matching their record from 2014 in PSUAC.
Purnell follows Griess as Rookie of the Year, having batted .343 with notable statistics including 37 hits and five home runs. His performance placed him among top conference rankings in slugging and on-base percentages.
Griess improved upon his previous season’s second-team selection by ranking 23rd in batting average with key contributions like a five-hit game against Penn State Berks.
Townsend led his team in several categories, earning first-team recognition by ranking high in league batting averages and delivering consistent multi-hit games throughout the season.
Goebel achieved his first postseason award by leading his team in runs scored while maintaining a strong batting average and slugging percentage.
Munoz demonstrated reliability both defensively with a perfect fielding percentage and offensively as one of the team’s top hitters this season.
