Ten archers from Penn College achieved top 10 finishes at the USA Archery Indoor Nationals over the weekend in Harrisonburg, Va. Two competitors earned gold medals while two others secured silver.
Casey Keiter placed first in collegiate men’s fixed pins with a score of 1,184 points. Matthew Byrnes took the top spot in collegiate men’s compound with 1,169 points. In second place were Josiah Hinojos, who scored 1,164 points in fixed pins, and Eli Bartron with 1,165 points in the compound category.
Additional notable performances included Brady Buriak finishing fourth with 1,131 points and Emery Gunsallus securing seventh place with 1,119 points in the compound division. In fixed pins, Wyatt Steigerwalt came sixth with a score of 1,118, Anthony Olenchak was seventh with 1,099 points, Devin Albright placed ninth scoring 1,090 points, and Ben Malehorn finished tenth with a total of 1,080 points.
Coach Dustin Bartron expressed satisfaction with his team’s achievements: “I was very pleased with the team’s performance. Their hard work is paying off. Our first-year archers rose to the occasion with Keiter, Hinojis and Eli Bartron all making the podium.”
Looking ahead to future competitions and training plans: “This week, we will transition equipment from indoor 18 meters to our outdoor equipment to shoot 50 meters (now temperature, lighting and wind become a factor). We are excited to utilize our new outdoor practice facility at the Earth Science Center,” said Coach Bartron.
Penn College’s next competition will be at the Eastern Region Outdoor Championships scheduled for April 19-21 in Harrisonburg, Va.
