The Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority has provisionally awarded nearly $85 million to internet providers in the 23rd District, according to an announcement from Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23). The funding is intended to expand high-speed broadband access throughout the region.
“This funding will help bridge the digital divide and ensure our communities are well-connected to opportunities for economic growth, access to education, improved healthcare and everyday life,” Yaw said. “I’m incredibly pleased to see this significant investment in equitable broadband service in our region.”
The funds come from Pennsylvania’s allocation of almost $800 million through the federally funded Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) Program. This program aims to bring high-speed internet access across all areas of the state. Applicants who receive these awards will match the funding, bringing the total investment in the district to more than $169 million.
Yaw stated that this provisional award will connect unserved and underserved households, schools, and businesses. It will also support initiatives that make internet service more accessible for families, increase access to digital tools and resources, and create new opportunities for workforce development and economic growth.
