Penn College senior Peyton Mussina concluded his participation in the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship, finishing tied for 49th place. Over four days of competition at Midvale Country Club in Penfield, New York, Mussina shot a total score of 302.
Initially tied for fourth place with a score of 145 after Wednesday’s second round, Mussina made the cut for the second consecutive season. However, challenging weather conditions including rain and wind affected play. Officials attempted to complete two rounds on Thursday due to forecasts predicting more adverse weather. Mussina shot a 79 over 18 holes on Thursday, putting him at 7-over-par. He managed to play through 12 holes in the fourth round before darkness halted play, during which he was an additional 4-over-par.
Play resumed Friday at noon, allowing Mussina to finish the final six holes with a score of 2-over for a round total of 78.
Edward Coffren from Lynchburg claimed medalist honors with a score of 280, narrowly beating Will Karkoc from Bethel by one stroke and Kevin MU from Emory by two strokes. In team standings, Methodist University defended its title successfully with a total score of 1,175 points while Illinois Wesleyan finished second with a score of 1,180.
