Rep. Jamie Flick and Rep. Joe Hamm have announced that the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce will receive a $20,000 grant from America250PA as part of its Semiquincentennial Grants program. This funding is designated for the restoration of a Pennsylvania Railroad sleeper-lounge car.
“As we prepare to celebrate America’s 250th birthday, I’m proud to support efforts that showcase everything Lycoming County has to offer,” said Flick, who serves on the House Tourism, Recreation and Economic Development Committee. “Restoring a historic railcar not only honors our past, but it also invites people to visit, learn and invest in our future.”
Hamm expressed his congratulations to the chamber on receiving the grant. He highlighted Lycoming County’s historical significance by mentioning the Fair Play Men who declared independence from Britain beneath the Tiadaghton Elm on July 4, 1776. “This project will continue that tradition dating back to the birth of our Great Nation,” he added.
America250PA aims to support educational, civic, and celebratory events as part of Pennsylvania’s celebration of the United States’ 250th birthday in 2026. The demand for grants was high, with 440 applicants requesting more than $6 million.
