Senator Gene Yaw (R-23) announced that the Crary Hose Company in Tioga County will receive $250,000 in state funding for the construction of a new fire station. The funding is provided through the Department of Community and Economic Development’s Keystone Communities Program and aims to support flood recovery efforts following the damage caused by Tropical Storm Debby in August 2024.
Yaw visited the site after the flood to assess the damage. He stated, “Immediately after last year’s flood, I was on-site and saw the damage to the current Crary fire station, equipment and infrastructure. Thankfully, at that critical time, neighboring communities came together to aid Westfield and to help the Crary Hose Company. A new station will go a long way in protecting the people who protect us, and I was pleased to support this significant investment.”
The planned fire station is part of a larger project and will be built outside the floodplain. It will consist of an 80-by-80-foot steel structure with drive-through truck bays, intended to provide long-term safety for emergency personnel and equipment.
Chief William Goltz of the Crary Hose Company commented on the support received since the flood. “The outpouring of support since the flood has been nothing short of awe-inspiring. This award represents a major first step toward our goal of building a flood-safe, modern and professional fire station. We are determined to turn this horrific event into a catalyst for continued and accelerated progress for our department and community. The new station will enhance responsiveness, safety, training, health and recruitment. Thank you to Sen. Yaw and his staff for providing us with this opportunity and for their unwavering support of our department and the fire service in Pennsylvania.”
