A new retail development is set to boost the economy and tourism in Lycoming County. Bass Pro Shops announced plans to open a store in Muncy Township, marking its third location in Pennsylvania. This announcement was made during a county commissioners meeting, with state officials expressing optimism about the project’s potential impact.
Senator Gene Yaw highlighted the partnership’s significance, stating, “Securing this partnership with Bass Pro Shops is a testament to unwavering commitment between our state and local officials, including the Lycoming County Commissioners, Chamber of Commerce and FamVest.” He emphasized that the new location would enhance the local economy and promote tourism.
Representative Joe Hamm also expressed gratitude towards Bass Pro Shops for choosing Muncy Township. He noted, “Bass Pro is a world-class retailer and will integrate perfectly into our community,” adding that efforts have been ongoing for two years to bring this project to fruition.
Representative Jamie Flick described the development as “exciting news” for the region. He stated that it marks a significant step forward for economic development at the former Lycoming Mall site. The project is funded through Act 13 dollars, which are not taxpayer money.
The store will be part of The District at Lycoming Valley developed by FamVest Partners. It will serve a large area within the Pennsylvania Wilds and employ approximately 150 people when it opens in January 2027.
