Adrienne Wydra-Curry has been named the new head coach of the Penn College Wildcats’ Cross Country programs, according to an announcement by Athletics Director Scott Kennell. Wydra-Curry is currently serving as an assistant coach for the Penn College women’s basketball team and contributed to one of the most successful seasons in program history.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Wydra to the Penn College Cross Country program. Coach Wydra brings a proven record of leadership and a deep understanding of what it takes to build a successful program. We are excited for the future of Wildcat Cross Country under her guidance,” Kennell said.

Wydra-Curry, who graduated from Lycoming College with a B.A. in History in 2002, participated in women’s basketball, softball, and track and field as a student-athlete. She earned several all-conference honors, appeared at an NCAA Division III Championship, and was inducted into the Lycoming Athletics Hall of Fame in 2019.

Her coaching experience began at Lycoming College as Head Cross Country Coach for eight seasons (2002-2009), leader of the track and field program from 2002-04, and assistant women’s basketball coach from 2004-09. She later worked as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Cabrini College (2009-10), head basketball and soccer coach at Wicominco Day School in Salisbury, Maryland (2017-18), and head girls basketball coach at Lake Highlands Middle School in Lakeland, Florida (2019-20). She returned to Williamsport in 2022 as assistant women’s basketball coach for both Lycoming College and Penn College.

During her recent tenure with Penn College women’s basketball, she helped lead the team to a record-setting 20-6 season that included reaching the United East Semifinals.

“I am excited for the opportunity to expand my coaching duties at Penn College to the Cross Country programs. I plan to bring a positive, high-energy, student-athlete approach to the programs by creating an inclusive environment where our runners can learn and mature. I am eager to work together with the student-athletes to achieve our goals,” Wydra-Curry said.

Wydra-Curry will continue on staff with women’s basketball while leading both men’s and women’s cross country teams. The men’s team has placed among the top three in the United East Conference each of the last four seasons and secured two championships in 2023 and 2024; meanwhile, the women have finished sixth, fourth, and fifth over their past three conference meets.

Penn College Wildcats Women’s Cross Country competes at NCAA Division III level events within the United East Conference out of Williamsport, Pennsylvania (official website). The team utilizes facilities such as Elm Park and UPMC Field (official website) for its training and competitions.
