The Senate Education Committee is set to convene on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. in Room 8E-B, East Wing. The committee meeting will focus on two important bills, namely Senate Bill 795 and House Bill 1097.

According to the agenda, Senate Bill 795, introduced by J. Ward, aims to amend the Public School Code of 1949 by establishing the Lifeline Scholarship Program and the Lifeline Scholarship Fund. This bill carries significant implications for education funding and support for students.

In addition, the committee will also deliberate on House Bill 1097, presented by Haddock. This bill proposes amendments to the Public School Code of 1949 to introduce a moment of silence in schools on the anniversary of September 11, 2001. Furthermore, it seeks to mandate the Department of Education to identify curriculum for educating students on the events and significance of that fateful day in American history.

The scheduled meeting is crucial for lawmakers and stakeholders in the education sector to discuss and evaluate the potential impacts of these proposed legislative changes. The bills under consideration address important aspects of education policy and have the potential to shape the educational landscape in the state.

As the Education Committee prepares to convene tomorrow, the outcomes of the discussions on SB 795 and HB 1097 are eagerly anticipated by those invested in the future of education in the state.
