More than 200 high school students from five counties in Pennsylvania recently participated in the Student Government Seminar hosted by Sen. Gene Yaw. The event, held at Pennsylvania College of Technology's campus, aimed to provide students with a hands-on experience in the legislative process.

"The Student Government Seminar is a great opportunity for high school students to interact with their local and state government officials," said Sen. Yaw, who also serves as chairman of the Penn College Board of Directors. "The intent is for students to obtain a better understanding of the legislative process and develop professional relationships that can open the door for future internships and job opportunities."

The seminar, one of the largest Senate-organized student government seminars in the Commonwealth, brought together students, teachers, government officials, lobbyists, and members of the media. The day included debates on important issues, development of mock legislation, and voting on "mock bills" in an open session.

Penn College President Dr. Michael J. Reed welcomed the students and introduced Sen. Yaw, who provided words of encouragement to the young leaders. Drew Crompton, a member of McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC, guided students through the "Dynamics of the Legislative Process" before they engaged in brainstorming sessions on topics such as energy, education, and transportation issues.

Participating High Schools included schools from Athens, Canton, Lewisburg, Montoursville, Muncy, Williamsport, and others.
